WHAT IS THE MOST COMMON INGREDIENT IN HANUKKAH?

HANUKKAH KNOWN AS THE FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS IS UPON US.
As the story goes… there was only enough oil for one day to keep lit a light that was supposed to always remain aglow. But that oil lasted for eight days, long enough for more oil to arrive after the temple had been ransacked.

Many Hanukkah foods are deep-fried in oil, symbolizing the oil from the menorah used in the Temple. Many of the Jewish recipes for authentic Jewish foods have been passed through the generations by practice rather than written recipes.

We have put together our favorites.

First on the list is the sufganiyot otherwise known as jelly donuts. Pronounced… SOOF-gah-nee-OHT. The word comes from the Hebrew root for “sponge,” where the doughnut soaks up the oil.

You will find these recipes hold many of the traditional practices for sufganiyot.
