Review | ODESZA – A Moment Apart
One of the most popular groups to combine trance with house and EDM music recently has been the electropop sensation ODESZA, and just this past week they released their second album since 2014 titled A Moment Apart that includes their hit single Higher Ground featuring Naomi Wild. A pioneer of the genre, ODESZA’s head chefs Harrison Mills and Clayton Knight from Seattle, WA have transcended the music industry by combining indie sound with electronic effects and 808 beats.
Their album begins with the song Intro, which feels like it’s been taken straight from 2001: A Space Odyssey, followed by their featured piece A Moment Apart that opens with an epic symphonic melody straight from a John Williams score. Regina Spektor’s collaboration on Just a Memory highlights ODESZA’s signature indie electronic sound and their collaboration with Leon Bridges on Across the Room beautifully combines the sounds of R&B and electropop to create a fantastic tribute to Motown. The album concludes with use of an 808 snare to back Sasha Sloan’s powerful collaboration on Falls followed by two songs Show Me and the RY X feature Corners of the Earth that call Jai Wolf’s name for epic remix potential. If you’re looking for a powerful electronic album that uses innovative approaches to trance and house to move forward the electropop genre, ODESZA’s new album will certainly make an impact.
